This one’s for you…

4 09 2007

And you DEFINITELY know who you are.  As I’ve been learning how to blog, this computer genius (and I use the term in all seriousness!) has been so wonderful in helping me navigate my site and how to do things.  The really last thing that I needed to know was how to post video for you all to see.  It’s taken me a couple of days, but I’ve done it, so in honor of the one who’s always gotten me out of trouble more than she got me into trouble.  I present:

Duran Duran were always our Wild Boys!  (Can I really be that old? :) )

Thoughtful Queston #1- On Race

4 09 2007

After watching the new Reality TV show the Power of 10.  According to the survey that they took 57% of Americans said that they would NOT want to move into a neighborhood if they were they only one of their color (meaning race) living there.  After all of my work with racism I was really surprised with the number.  I’m wondering what others think.

Some like it hot…

4 09 2007

Yesterday I saw the movie “Some Like It Hot” with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe for the first time.  For some reason I’ve never seen the movie before.  Don’t know why, I just never have.  My parents were never big Marilyn fans, so I was never introduced to her films as a child.  The movie was ok, nothing special, nothing I’d want to watch over and over again.  What struck me was that there was this beach scene where Marilyn and the girls were playing with a beach ball on the sand.  They were all in bathing suits.  Marilyn would definitely not be classified in what today would be a size 0.  I wish that we had more movie stars today who looked like Ms. Monroe to show girls, young women and even women today that it’s okay to be comfortable with themselves.  And that all body shapes and sizes are wonderful.

I try and teach the girls and young women that I mentor that we are all created by God in God’s image and that a piece of God is in each of us.  So it’s okay to be who ever we are!
