I come from a family of crafty people. Embroidery, woodworking, baking, etc. (Sometimes I feel like my life is like that scene from “My Cousin Vinnie” when Mona Lisa is on the witness stand and she says that her father was a mechanic, her uncle was a mechanic, her two brothers are a mechanics…) and I am NOT crafty at all. I hate to cook and bake. My attempts at knitting recently have not even reached pot holder stages.
I have a manual Viking sewing machine. No fancy buttons to push, no fancy stitches, just a basic sturdy machine. (Hey, it’s Swedish, we’re all like that. Not fancy, what you see is what you get.
) And I’ve been trying to use it a little more. I still feel inept though. My cousin Staci uses her machine to make clothes for her kids and she’s a wiz. She definitely inherited the crafty genes!
I decided that I needed to make some pillow covers for some old pillows and I had no material to make the said pillow covers, so I remembered that you could turn old t-shirts into pillow covers. I got out and old St. Olaf t-shirt and within 38 minutes I had covered a small little throw pillow. No pattern even. Not that it’s perfect or anything, but it’s my creation! Go me!
As of today my brother B. has been deployed for 16 days.
