Election time…again

29 02 2008

Because of where I live, I get both news channels from Boston, Massachusetts (who voted in February) and Providence, Rhode Island (who will be voting this Tuesday.)  I actually live closer to Providence and get the weather patterns of Providence, so I watch the channels from Providence.  Because of the primary on Tuesday we are being inundated with the political ads.  What’s really amazing to watch is how the commercials and messages have CHANGED since February.  I just saw a Barack Obama commercial where the essence of the message was a crowd and he were chanting “Yes, we can.”  And a Hillary Clinton ad where she’s wearing really soft colored clothes and the ads have been much quieter and softer spoken.  Truly amazing to watch.  Again, if you’re in Texas, Ohio or Rhode Island, please vote, regardless of the party or candidate, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE.

This is too cool!! – It’s me!!

A couple of my friends now have created themselves, so I decided to give it a try, and here’s what I came up with.  To create your own version of yourself go to meez.com and imagine away!  (And yes, I’m aware that I have no shoes on.  That’s how I am in real life! :) )

Loki’s Birthday

16 02 2008

As Loki pointed out, his birthday is on Sunday, as is my mom’s, and Sarah Davies from elementary school.  I was totally blanking last night on what day it was yesterday.  For some reason I thought yesterday was Saturday, but today is.  SO.  So Happy Birthday tomorrow to Loki and mom!  (But hey man, at least you got a whole post to yourself, if I was befuddled on the day :) )

And as a birthday gift for you Loki- here’s a joke from Beliefnet.com (and by the way, we love both cats and mice :) )

Do Cats Go to Heaven?

A cat dies and goes to Heaven. God meets him at the gate and says, “You have been a good cat all of these years. Anything you desire is yours, all you have to do is ask.”

The cats says, “Well, I lived all my life with a poor family on a farm and had to sleep on hardwood floors.”

God says, “Say no more.” And instantly, a fluffy pillow appears.

A few days later, 6 mice are killed in a tragic accident and they go to Heaven. God meets them at the gate with the same offer that He made the cat. The mice said, “All our lives we’ve had to run. Cats, dogs and even women with brooms have chased us. If we could only have a pair of roller skates, we wouldn’t have to run anymore.”

God says, “Say no more.” And instantly, each mouse is fitted with a beautiful pair of tiny roller skates.

About a week later, God decides to check and see how the cat is doing. The cat is sound asleep on his new pillow. God gently wakes him and asks, “How are you doing? Are you happy here?”

The cat yawns and stretches and says, “Oh, I’ve never been happier in my life. And those Meals on Wheels you’ve been sending over are the best!”

Happy Birthday Mom!!!

15 02 2008

It’s also my mom’s birthday.  So happy birthday mom!

She was lucky and got to celebrate her birthday early a couple of weekends ago in Orlando with my brother Dave and my cousins, and even my uncle.  It sounded like they all had a good time.  Except for my cousin Staci and her family who now live in Utah and my dad and me, the whole family was together for the first time in decades!  Stace and I commiserated over the phone though :)   Dad was swamped at work and I couldn’t travel due to the pneumonia I was getting over.  Bummer.  But at least my mom and my brother were together to celebrate mom’s birthday (and the fact that Gail is now cancer free- yeah.)

But I digress.  Happy Birthday mom!

Older Than Dirt

15 02 2008

I’d like to wish Loki a very Happy Birthday tomorrow.  A few years ago on his birthday, Loki joked that he was “Older than dirt.”  Now I am one year younger than Loki, so I joke that I am one year younger than dirt.  So LOKI- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  (I hope you and your wife E. have a great day together, hope to see you guys soon!)

Quiz: What’s your path to Peace?

8 02 2008

Here’s the link to another GREAT quiz.

It asks you your opinions on how you treat peace, justice, non-violence actions and more and then it comes up with how you go about working for peace in our world, comparing you to some of the famous peacemakers.  The link is http://www.beliefnet.com/section/quiz/index.asp?sectionID=407&surveyID=248  or simply click on this link Beliefnet.com’s Path to Peace Quiz.

Here’s how I scored:

You scored 24, on a scale of 10 to 40. Here’s how to interpret your score:

18 – 27     You take the non-violent path. Like famed Indian pacifist, Mahatma Gandhi, you believe that peaceful civil disobedience is the best route to social change. There are rare moments when violent resistance may be considered as a better option. Nonviolence, you emphatically believe, is not to be confused with cowardice, but rather the highest expression of bravery.

I hope you all enjoy the quiz.  It was very uplifting to me!

Just Chillin’

7 02 2008

There’s actually nothing special going on to post here.  Life’s okay and nothing exciting is really happening.  At these moments it’s weird having a blog, since I feel like I have nothing worthwhile to say, so everyone stay safe… until next time…

(As Addie is fond of quoting, even though she’s 7.  Elvis has left the building.)

Congratulations to the New York Giants

3 02 2008

It was an absolutely wonderful Superbowl, because the team who played the best actually won, the New York Giants.  I am not a poor loser.  I give kudos where kudos are due.  The Giants outplayed my Patriots tonight and I’m sad that history wasn’t made with the Patriots going 19-0, but it truly was a great game to watch.  So congrats to the Giants and all their fans!  (But I would like to say that the Patriots defense showed some class at the end of the game with one second left a play had to be made by Eli Manning- (a total hottie!!) and while several of the Patriots had already gone into the locker room the Patriots defense took the field, knowing that they had lost and made the final play and then took the loss as a team like real gentlemen, which is what they are!)
